In addition, exchanges among artists, exhibition curators and managers of
cultural sites have given rise to artistic projects and policies. The Fondation
Clément has stepped up its efforts to promote artists in the Caribbean and
French art worlds through various offerings:
– In the spring of 2010, a rendez-vous was organized with three artists in
three leading galleries in the Paris art scene called the
Trois par Trois
project,
including Bruno Pédurand at the Robert gallery, Ernest Breleur at the Les
Filles du Calvaire gallery and David Damoison at the Anne de Villepoix gallery.

December 2010, allowing the foundation to continue its collaboration with the
president of the AICA-SC, who curated the exhibition.

The impact of the seminar was also enhanced through the participation of
major specialized media such as
Art Absolument
,
Le Journal des Arts
,
Beaux
Arts Magazine
and
ArtPress,
helping to give visibility to the event and the art-
ists and contributing to the vitality of Caribbean aesthetics. This was possible
thanks to the involvement of their editors and their presence during the event,
the quality of their communications and articles or press kits, and above all
their faithful follow-up on news regarding the projects and aesthetics.
We also noted the mobilization of nationally recognized art world profession-
als – gallery operators, exhibition curators, etc. – who were very involved in
the seminar encounters and continued to partner projects, receive artists-in-
residence and organize shows.
Finally, the lively interest generated by the seminar and the creativity of the
actors has brought about new forms of collaboration such as the sponsorship
of young creators by confirmed, recognized artists to encourage the develop-
ment of new aesthetics. This approach involving Martinique and Guadeloupe
was initiated by the Fondation Clément, which brought on board Ernest Breleur
and Michel Rovelas to curate the exhibition of young artists.
These are just a few examples of the wide variety of projected and completed
projects throughout the Caribbean today, some of which were inspired by
critiques d’art, responsables de lieux culturels,
médiateurs, institutions, acteurs publics, médias
spécialisés se sont retrouvés durant trois jours au
travers de tables rondes, cartes blanches artis-
tiques, expositions, visites d’ateliers d’artistes… et
ont débattu de thèmes d’actualité (voir encadré).
L’ensemble des participants et la presse ont salué la
qualité des échanges, l’expertise des intervenants,
ainsi que leur représentativité dans le monde pro-
fessionnel de l’art contemporain.
Compte tenu de l’esprit de cette manifestation, il a
semblé pertinent de tenter de rendre compte de ses
impacts dynamiques trois ans après, en termes de
contacts, de réseaux, de projets et d’acteurs.
Cette période a permis aux participants de pour-
suivre leurs échanges et leurs rencontres, d’élaborer
et de tester ensemble des projets et des collabora-
tions durables en faveur de l’art contemporain de la
Caraïbe, notamment dans les domaines suivants :
– Le développement des rencontres entre
professionnels
– L’émergence de projets et de collaborations
nouvelles
– La visibilité des acteurs et des projets dans l’espace
international artistique
– L’émergence de nouvelles approches
(acteurs,
esthétiques, coopérations…).
Durant le séminaire, différents représentants de
réseaux d’art contemporain étaient présents, notam-
ment l’AICA-SC et le Caribbean: Crossroads of the
World (CCW), ce dernier proposant un projet réunis-
sant plusieurs institutions et experts internationaux
pour la préparation d’une rétrospective de l’art dans
la Caraïbe

. Grâce aux échanges ayant eu lieu durant
le séminaire, le HKW (Maison des cultures dumonde)
de Berlin, membre du réseau CCW, recevra en 2012
l’artiste Bertrand Grosol. L’AICA-SC a également
renforcé ses liens avec le réseau qui déboucheront
Polibio Díaz.
